‘The most important day I remember in all my life is the one on which my teacher Anne Mansfield Sullivan, came to me… It was the third of March, 1887, three months before I was seven years old.. The light of love shone on me in that very hour’.

This is a tribute written by Helen Keller to her teacher Anne Sullivan in her autobiography - ‘The Story of my Life’. When Helen lost her sight and hearing to a childhood illness at 2, her world turned dark and empty. Very few would have predicted that she would go on to become the first deaf blind person to graduate from college. With Anne’s support, Helen soared even higher to become an acclaimed author and a public figure who was central to several political, social and cultural movements of the 20th century.

This story, which is essentially about the transformative power of a teacher in a child’s life, has stayed close to my heart for the longest of times. I dreamt of a school where such empathic and passionate teachers come together. I dreamt of a space where children blossom to their full potential. This dream has found the beginning of its realization through Lil Boats.
